Have you noticed how many women are really celebrating their significant birthdays? Turning 50, 60, 65, 70 and beyond are cause for joyous parties and trips, often planned by the woman herself.
Jane Wilson gave herself a magnificent 80th with all her friends participating. Janie Press had a black tie party with band and dancing at 50. For her 65th she’s doing a cabaret performance. Some celebrations are reunion trips with former schoolmates of the same age. Gail Gordon’s Minnesota friends visited her in New York for plays, museums and restaurants. My high school girlfriends gathered at a friend’s cabin for cooking, endless talking and walks in the woods at 65.
Whatever happened to the idea that a woman was supposed to hide her age?
Let’s share the stories of significant birthdays. How have you approached yours?
