Beauty Care for Your Forgotten Areas

Hair, face and nails are the big three of most women’s beauty routines.  They tend to forget other areas that make a big impact on overall appearance and beauty.  Here are a few forgotten areas I often remind my patients to spend time on:

Eyelashes

Many women focus on improving lines, circles and bags but they forget their eyelashes. Thinning eyelashes are a natural part of the aging process.  Longer, darker, fuller lashes frame the eyes and give lift, youth and beauty to the face. I encourage my patients to consider a safe, prescription product like Latisse which will show thicker, darker, longer lashes in about 16 weeks. Even without ANY makeup, long dark eyelashes add beauty and youth. Note: At a recent conference, a colleague was showing before and after photos of eyes only after having had surgery, or Botox or filler. She showed one before/after photo which was impressive. It was a patient that had done nothing more than use Latisse.

Scalp

We focus on our hair but forget that our scalp is an extension of facial skin. It needs to be nourished so that the hair is healthy, strong and beautiful. A beautiful blow-out is nothing if the scalp is dry. I remind everyone to do an annual deep conditioning treatment that nourishes scalp AND hair. Elbows

When we look at ourselves in the mirror, we almost never really “see” the elbows but they can certainly give away our age. They can appear crepey, dark and loose.   Be generous and “share” some of your retinol or antioxidant cream from your facial regimen with your elbows after exfoliating.  My favorite products for this include Vaseline, Caress Shimmering Body Lotion and AmLactin. And while you are at it, don’t forget your knees.

Ears 

They are very often overlooked when it comes to sun protection. They are thin skinned and can show the same signs of aging as your face!  Earlobes can sag. The skin can become spotted and most importantly, they are at high risk for skin cancer. The best approach is to keep them covered but if that isn’t possible, I’d recommend frequent application of a sunscreen like Kiehl’s Activated Sun Protector SPF 50.
