I’m thinking of quitting my job so that I can pursue my true purpose in life, which is keeping up-to-date on David Tennant.
David Tennant is the adorable Scottish actor who played the Tenth Doctor on the popular BBC SciFi TV series “Doctor Who.” In 2010, after three years in that role, he left the show to appear in other successful TV shows. He’s currently the evil, sexy villain in Netflix’s “Jessica Jones.”

Tennant leads a very busy and productive life. He does interviews, hosts radio programs, appears on TV shows and in movies, and speaks at Comicons. He’s even starred in Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company! You have to stay busy to follow it all. It helps that there’s a Daily David Twitter Feed to provide fans with new Tennant-related news and clips every day.
Still, keeping up with all this stuff is time-consuming, which is why it could make sense to quit my job as a circulation assistant at my local public library in order to focus on David Tennant.
Why? Because it makes me happy.
Happiness doesn’t grow on trees, and if you find something that I enjoy as much as I enjoy following the career of David Tennant, why not pursue it?
I’ve done this kind of thing before. When I was 10, I spent hours working on my David McCallum scrapbook. McCallum was the adorable Scottish actor who starred in the popular TV show “The Man From UNCLE.” Every week I spent my allowance on fan magazines. I’d read and reread each article, then carefully cut it out and paste it into an oversized notebook.
That made me happy too.
What’s so great about David Tennant? He seems like a perfect man. Attractive. Smart. Funny. Plus, he’s very handy in a sword fight.
But would I actually want to meet the guy? I don’t know! It would be quite a let down if the real David Tennant didn’t measure up to my idea of who he is. Besides, what would a mild-mannered AARP-aged Philadelphia librarian actually have to say to a highly successful (and considerably younger) Scottish actor?
I’m not sure that the two of us have anything in common, other than the fact that he is (obviously) David Tennant and I’m a fan of David Tennant.

Even as a fantasy, it’s hard to imagine that working out. Besides which, he’s married. To a terrific woman. They have a loving marriage. And four kids.
I care too much about David Tennant’s happiness to want to break up his happy home.
What the two of us have now works for us both. He appears in things, and I watch the things he appears in. (Usually more than once.) He gives interviews and I read (or watch) the interviews.
To be honest, if David Tennant (or, for that matter, David McCallum) strolled into the library where I work tomorrow, although I’d like to think that I’d rise to the occasion and be witty and charming, it‘s far more likely that I‘d turn into a gibbering Fangirl.
Luckily, that’s something I’ll never have to worry about.
The purpose of David Tennant is to make my life more interesting. He is very good at this. And I am grateful. (Thanks, David!) Will I quit my job so that I can follow David‘s career full time? Not just yet. But if I ever win the lottery? All bets are off.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I haven’t checked the Daily David feed yet.

What a sisterhood we are, Tom Baker, David McCallum, David Tennant…we know quality when we see it! 😉 If you haven’t already, check out DT’s turn as the villain Kilgrave on Jessica Jones, chilling and gorgeous! 🙂

Roz, now I know why we are Chicken Soup for the Soul-mates! I too had a major crush on David McCallum and was a card carrying member of the Man From U.N.C.L.E Fan Club. Imagine my dismay when I received a signed photo of Napolean Solo in my member kit-UGH! But, who is this other David? And why is Matthew from Downton Abbey not mentioned? Was anything more upsetting than the day he was killed off on what should have been one of the happiest days if his life? Brittish, Scottish–close enough. I wonder if our fascination has to do more with their accents than anything else?

Yes. I too followed David McCallum obsessively as a girl, and I’m now a big fan of David Tennant. Did you see his Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing? My favorite.
Carolann
Love him too! Everything I see him in is always excellent! I can see the whole fangirl thing for sure.

I was a David McCallum fan way back then too. And I worked in academic libraries for ages. And I’m a David Tennant, sigh, drool, sigh, fan. My favorite Doctor next to Tom Baker, and the only one who gives me shivers from his cuteness. Do you also have a thing for Craig Ferguson? I do, he shares my birthday, although I have a couple of years on him… and I can’t wait for his new History Channel show. What is it about these Scottish guys? This was a really fun post. Daily David feed is something I have to check out!

I’m with you. Tom Baker was my first Doctor. Tennant is my favorite of the New Who Doctors.

Haha! Roz, this was such a fun essay! I can understand your passion for Mr. Tennant! I, myself, used to belong to Christopher Lee’s fan club (as a 10 year old!), and am a long time theatre and Phantom of the Opera fan (or phan!) and wish I could travel around and see productions of it and things like “Hamilton” . Of course, things like money and working get in the way. Some day, maybe. When my lottery ship comes in!

I couldn’t understand who this was…then I realized he played Barty Crouch, Jr, the snake tongue wizard in Goblet of Fire!

I totally get this. For me it is Aiden Turner. If he walked in I probably couldn’t even say hello so the relationship works well the way it is:)

Roz, you are so marvelous! You have put into words one of my fantasies! Yes, meet the actor of my dreams and he falls madly in love! Not. Wouldn’t work in real life. It was Val Kilmer for a time. Then, hmm, I can’t think of any actor at the moment that I’d drool over and follow on Twitter. I don’t do social media anyway. Thank you so much, Roz. I love you. Just a word of criticism, gasp!, about David. Can’t he get closer to a razor!? Maybe he has a skin condition that prevents daily shaves. Then grow a beard! Sorry. Just had to write that. Ta, old bean. Love to you and your furries.

I’m buying 2 lottery tickets for you this year. One for your birthday and one for Hanukkah. After that, you’re on your own kid. I’m into Adam Levine…nice Jewish boy.

My true purpose in life is to somehow get a benefactor to support me and spend all my time traveling for fun!

A woman should always have high standards for romance, even if it means a fantasy relationship with a much younger, happily married, celebrity such as George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Hugh Jackman or this David Tennant fellow. This avoids the messy scenes that come with having an affair with the married man nextdoor!

Wonderful!

Yes, yes I had a crush on David McC also! I don’t know Tennant but I did have a crush on a Broadway actor that I then saw on TV. John Barrowman. OMG. Then I found out he’s gay, so no chance for ME! LOL
Roz Warren
John Barrowman plays Captain Jack Harkness on Doctor Who. He IS adorable.
Roxanne Jones
I just “discovered” him, having binge-watched Broadchurch and The Politician’s Wife on Netflix. He’s compelling, that’s for sure!

I understand this completely. My new #1 rule of productivity is “Do What Pleases Me.” Life is so much better.

I understand this completely. I’ve made a new #1 rule of productivity – Do what pleases me. So much better than it used to be. My life, that is.
