Who doesn’t love a day at the spa? While relaxing to a hot stone massage and a tall glass of freshly prepared cucumber water is a delightful way to restore the spirit, it can also a way to turn back the years to look younger and more refreshed. When it comes to anti-aging, not all spa services are created equally. If you want to look and feel younger give these rejuvenating beauty treatments a try at a medical spa.
1. Rejuvenating Facial
Every spa has their own secret recipe of creams, lotions, and peels for their signature facials. If you want to look younger, try one that promises rejuvenating benefits. Look for a facial that offers mild exfoliation as this can slough off old skin and reveal brighter, younger skin underneath. Alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) or glycolic acid are often used (and may be able to be added into any facial on the spa’s list for a rejuvenating boost).
2. Mud or Clay Body Mask
Your skin is the outermost layer of protection for your body. Daily it is assaulted by chemicals, pollution, environmental toxins, etc. Clay naturally draws these toxins and impurities out from the body, leading to smoother, younger looking skin. Clay masks can be applied just to the face or all over the body depending on the areas that you’re looking to rejuvenate.
If you struggle with adult acne (many women in their late 40s and 50s find that those pesky teenage breakouts return due to hormonal changes), try a clay or mud mask. Clay dries the skin removing excess sebum, oil, and bacteria and helping skin to stay clear. If you struggle with dry skin, skip the clay and opt for a moisturizing mask instead.
3. Dermal Fillers
Although you won’t find dermal fillers on the menu at just any spa, if you head to a medi-spa, these powerful little injections can transform your skin (in a good way). As the body ages fat deposits shift, leaving once tight skin loose and saggy. Dermal fillers can rebuild this lost volume, restoring youth and making you look dramatically younger in just one treatment.
Dr. Mattiesonand explains, “Many of today’s dermal fillers are made using hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found throughout your body. Allergic reactions to this filler are very rare making it an ideal choice for most people. If you’re worried about looking fake or overdone after a filler treatment, make sure you choose a skilled provider. In the right hands these injections can sculpt and transform, making you look years younger without surgery. My patients love the results they get from dermal fillers.”
4. Deep Tissue Massage
Massage is scientifically proven to reduce inflammation and pain while promoting healing. If you suffer from aching joints or a sore back, try massage. It’s a pill free way to feel younger again. While a good deep tissue massage isn’t going to make you look dramatically younger, it should help you to feel younger and there’s a lot to say for feeling as good as you look!
5. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)
Age spots are a tell-tale sign that you’re getting older. Erase them and you’ll wipe the years away. IPL, short for intense pulsed light, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure offered at many medi-spas that can even skin tone, fade brown spots, reduce the appearance of sun damage, shrink pores, and minimize wrinkling. This treatment takes under an hour with almost no recovery time (just a little redness and swelling while you heal).
Remember that relaxation can be only part of the benefit from a medical spa. Which of these age fighting spa treatments will you try?

I’m very interested in the IPL treatment. Where would I find a medical spa in the St. Paul/Minneapolis Minnesota area?
